Reviews
The iPhone 13 Pro has largely impressed reviewers, and it has received mostly positive feedback. Positives include longer battery life, a smaller front notch, and a 120Hz ProMotion display, as well as an updated camera system with Macro photography and a new Cinematic mode. On the downside, some reviewers believe it is more of an iterative update because there are no significant design changes or feature enhancements.

According to Dieter Bohn of The Verge, Apple did a ""Excellent job," he says of Apple's implementation of a ProMotion display on iPhone 13 Pro models, adding that "when I scroll on the iPhone 13 Pro, the text stays readable instead of turning into a blur." The movement of objects on the screen is more fluid."
According to Joanna Stern of the Wall Street Journal, all four iPhone 13 models last at least an hour longer than the equivalent iPhone 12 models, with significant improvements across the lineup.

Some reviewers, such as CNET's Patrick Holland, were particularly impressed with the new Cinematic mode, which is available on all four iPhone 13 models, calling it "dramatic and impressive," despite the fact that it requires "a good amount of light to work best."

Design
Apple ditched the rounded edges that had been used on iPhones since the iPhone 6, instead opting for a flat-sided design with squared-off edges, a look that harkens back to the iPhone 4 and 5 and matches the iPad Pro. Apple is using the same flat-edged design for the entire iPhone 13 lineup, and the iPhone 13 models resemble the iPhone 12 models they replace. Because it is a design that Apple has previously used, the flat-edged design feels both modern and familiar.

The iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max have an all-glass front and a textured glass back that sit on top of a frame made of gleaming, surgical-grade stainless steel. Apple matches the stainless steel frame to the color of the back glass for a seamless appearance.

The TrueDepth camera, speaker, and microphone are still housed in a notch on the front of the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max.

Antenna bands can be found on the phone's top and sides, as well as the standard power and volume buttons on the right and left. A 5G mmWave antenna is located beneath the power button, and it is only available on models in the United States that support mmWave.

The iPhone 13 Pro models have the bottom-mounted speaker and microphone holes, as well as a Lightning port for charging. The SIM card slot is on the device's left side.

The iPhone 13 Pro models have a square camera bump on the back, as well as a triple-lens camera setup. The camera bumps on the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max are larger than those on the iPhone 12 Pro models, and the size increase is significant.

Size
The iPhone 13 Pro models, like the iPhone 12 Pro models, are available in 6.1 and 6.7-inch sizes, with the 6.7-inch iPhone 13 Pro Max being Apple's largest iPhone. The iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max are thicker and heavier than the iPhone 12 Pro models.

The iPhone 13 Pro is 5.78 inches tall (146.7mm), 2.82 inches wide (71.5mm), and 0.30 inches thick (7.65mm), while the iPhone 13 Pro Max is 6.33 inches tall (160.8mm), 3.07 inches wide (78.1mm), and 0.30 inches thick (7.65mm) (7.65mm)

The iPhone 13 Pro weighs 7.19 ounces (204 grams), while the iPhone 13 Pro Max weighs 8.46 ounces (240 grams).

True Depth Camera and Face ID
Face ID, a facial recognition system first introduced in 2017, is used for biometric authentication on the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max. Face ID components are housed in the display notch's TrueDepth camera system, which is smaller this year.

Face ID is used for unlocking the iPhone, gaining access to third-party passcode-protected apps, confirming app purchases, and authenticating Apple Pay payments across iOS tasks.

Face ID is powered by a collection of sensors and cameras. A Dot Projector projects over 30,000 invisible infrared dots onto the skin's surface to create a 3D facial scan that maps the curves and planes of each face, which is read by an infrared camera.

The facial depth map is sent to the A15 chip, which converts it into a mathematical model used by the iPhone to authenticate identity. Face ID works in low light and in the dark, as well as with hats, beards, glasses, sunglasses, scarves, and other face-obscuring accessories.
